WASHINGTON – Coalition members, including Free Press and, filed petitions with more than 100,000 signatures last week in support of Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski’s “Third Way” approach to protecting Net Neutrality and restoring broadband authority.

The coalition also generated more than 11,000 individual comments from Americans in favor of the FCC’s effort to reclassify broadband access under Title II of the Communications Act.

Free Press Associate Outreach Director Misty Perez Truedson said:

“It is clear that there is overwhelming support for the FCC’s effort to protect free speech online and to stop the corporate takeover of the Internet. The comments and signatures filed and generated by the Coalition are evidence that people care about preserving the Internet. FCC Chairman Genachowski should continue to pursue his ‘Third Way’ proposal to ensure that consumers are protected online and that the Internet remains open for all.

“If we want an Internet that continues to foster innovation and entrepreneurship, we need to connect everyone to it and get rid of barriers that limit use. We’ve already given phone and cable companies too much control over Internet access.”
