Tell the FCC: Stop Harassing ABC

The First Amendment is under attack. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr is abusing his power to punish broadcasters for speech that Trump dislikes.

Carr has repeatedly attacked ABC and opened at least three dubious investigations in response to Trump’s complaints about the network’s news and entertainment programming.

Just a day after Trump criticized the network, Carr took the unprecedented step of forcing ABC’s broadcast licenses into an early FCC renewal process. He claims that the review is about the company’s DEI policies, but nobody’s buying that. Even Republican Senator Ted Cruz condemned Carr for acting as the “speech police.”

Carr’s threat to ABC’s broadcast licenses is an unconstitutional violation of free speech. Tell the FCC to stop its attack on ABC.

To FCC Commissioners:

The FCC should not punish broadcasters for speech the president dislikes. It is your duty to uphold the First Amendment — not act as speech police.

The agency’s brazen attack on ABC’s broadcast licenses is an attack not just on the network, but on free speech itself. Drop it.
