Tell the FCC: Reject the Nexstar-Tegna Merger

Media consolidation decimates independent newsrooms. If Nexstar acquires Tegna, it would increase the broadcasting giant’s national reach to a staggering 81 percent of all U.S. households — which is more than double the limit Congress set.

This merger would hurt our communities and undermine our democracy. Urge the FCC to block it.

To the Federal Communications Commission:

Do not approve a merger between Nexstar and Tegna.

Media consolidation often leads to newsroom layoffs, which in turn lead to less local news and information, worse coverage, and less viewpoint and ownership diversity. People across the United States already suffer from a lack of local journalism, which hinders their ability to participate fully in our democracy. Deals like these harm the public interest, despite what the broadcasters claim.

You must uphold the FCC’s mandate to promote diversity, localism and competition in broadcasting. Do not approve this disastrous — and unlawful — merger.
