Tell Congress: Journalism Is Not a Crime

On Fri., Jan. 30, federal agents arrested journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort for covering the community response to ICE violence in Minnesota. It’s clear: The Trump administration is criminalizing journalism and silencing dissent.

Demand Congress take swift action: Call Attorney General Bondi to testify, pass the PRESS Act and reform the Espionage Act so the government stops treating journalists like criminals. Add your name now.

To Congress:

The Trump administration’s arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a direct assault on the First Amendment. Journalism is not a crime.

You must: call Attorney General Pam Bondi before Congress and demand answers for these unconstitutional arrests; reintroduce and pass the PRESS Act to protect journalists from government overreach; reform the Espionage Act so the government stops treating reporters like criminals; and reassert everyone’s right to record so the state can’t target those engaged in journalism with violence and crackdowns.

The First Amendment protects acts of journalism and protest equally. I’m counting on you to defend it with every tool at your disposal.
