Conservative activists and Trump-administration officials have targeted the radio conglomerate for a number of reasons, ranging from objecting to how one of its radio stations covered ICE raids in San Francisco to opposing its efforts to restructure its debt.

The real motivation behind these attacks appears to be the financial ties Audacy has to billionaire investor George Soros, long a bogeyman of the right. Audacy owns more than 220 radio stations, but it filed for bankruptcy in January 2025. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr now wants to take a “very hard look” at the company’s bankruptcy plan approved by the previous FCC. As such, it’s still too early in newly appointed CEO Kelli Turner’s tenure to assign a capitulation rating.

What It Owns:

Audacy owns 210 radio stations in 46 markets. It also has a controlling stake in American Tower Systems, Amperwave, CBS Radio Network, CBS Sports Radio Network, Infinity Broadcasting and Orion Data Analysis Corporation. It owns production studios Cadence13, Pineapple Street Media and Podcorn.
