Remember the old days of dial-up, when it could take hours, sometimes days, to load a video clip online? Well, get used it — that could once again be the reality of surfing the web if Net Neutrality regulations are abolished.

If you like being able to access any website you choose and have it load at the same speed as any other site, then guess what? You are a fan of Net Neutrality.

Open-internet activists hailed Wednesday’s massive online demonstration of support for Net Neutrality as a major success, but warned that the fight to stop the Trump administration’s plan to dismantle the Net Neutrality rules is only just beginning.

“The existing Net Neutrality protections put internet users in the driver’s seat and keep big cable and phone companies from controlling what you see and do online,” said Free Press Action Fund Campaign Director Candace Clement.

There is no question that the American people favor Net Neutrality. They are literally flooding the Federal Communications Commission with pleas for preservation of “the First Amendment of the internet.”

There’s one issue that Americans agree on. Regardless of income and education levels, race, gender or even whether they’re Democrats or Republicans, Americans want strong Net Neutrality. Unfortunately, President Trump’s picked man at the head of the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai, is well on his way to destroying Net Neutrality

Today’s digital protest is an important effort to help preserve the Net Neutrality rules that help uphold a free and open internet. It’s also not enough. Keeping the current rules on the books — or replacing them with new, enforceable rules from Congress — requires steady pressure, ongoing on public officials.
