Advocacy group Free Press says the change will let Trump-aligned billionaires buy more stations.

“Changing this limit requires congressional action, but Carr doesn’t care,” said Free Press VP Matt Wood.

“Free Press and allies plan to sue the FCC to halt this blatant attempt to hand over more media into the hands of Trump’s oligarch cronies,” said Free Press Co-CEO Jessica J. González.

“His goal is to spur more media consolidation involving companies Donald Trump views as ideological allies and corporate cronies,” said Free Press VP Matt Wood.

Free Press said after the vote that the group and its allies would challenge the decision in court.

“Media consolidation and deal approvals are now explicitly a way for President Trump to further consolidate his dictatorial power,” said Free Press.

The move sets the stage for more corporate consolidation in the media industry.

FCC Chairman Carr has been an eager accomplice to the president’s anti-speech agenda.

“Brendan Carr cannot undo the limit that Congress set just because he feels like it,” Free Press VP Matt Wood said.
