Free Press’ Nora Benavidez has done the essential work of counting the censorship attempts from the Trump administration over the course of 2025.

Trump has ramped up his use of hyper-realistic but fabricated visuals on Truth Social and other platforms, often glorifying himself while lampooning his critics.

“The fight for public media’s future is a fight for democracy and against authoritarianism,” said Free Press Co-CEO Craig Aaron.

31 press-freedom and civil-liberties groups published a join statement condemning the government invasion of the home of Washington Post journalist Hannah Natanson. 

During the hearing, Carr tried to justify his efforts to eliminate consumer safeguards, censor content and hand over more media power to President Trump’s cronies. 

“Both potential mergers could severely harm the viewing public,” Free Press Action VP Matt Wood said while testifying in Congress.

“Over the past few years in particular, we’ve seen an explosion of interest from lawmakers who want to support local news,” said Free Press Action’s Alex Frandsen.

“Runaway consolidation eliminates choice,” Free Press Action’s Matt Wood testified. “And under the Trump administration, these deals pose tremendous danger to free expression.”

Free Press Co-CEO Craig Aaron hopes the end of CPB will be a start to a “fundamental rethinking” of the public media system from the ground up.
