WASHINGTON — The Voices for Internet Freedom coalition delivered Valentine’s Day cards to 53 members of the Black, Hispanic and Asian Pacific American Caucuses today for supporting a resolution of disapproval to overturn the FCC’s decision to eliminate its Net Neutrality rules.

A number of organizations and websites are participating in an online day of action meant to garner more support for a Senate vote that would reverse the FCC’s removal of Net Neutrality protections.

The Republican-controlled Federal Communications Commission wants you to think that its recent decision to repeal the Net Neutrality rules and other consumer protections is already making the internet better. However, the repeal has yet to take effect, and Democrats in Congress are currently rallying to undo it.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed an order that mandates broadband companies doing business in the state must abide by some key Net Neutrality rules. The order takes effect March 1 and prohibits carriers that contract with state agencies from blocking, throttling, or prioritizing content or applications, and from charging consumers “different or higher rates to access specific types of content or applications.”

In the wake of the FCC’s vote to repeal Net Neutrality last December, lawmakers across the United States are looking at executive orders and bills that limit ISPs’ ability to flout Net Neutrality principles.
