In the wake of the FCC’s vote to repeal Net Neutrality last December, lawmakers across the United States are looking at executive orders and bills that limit ISPs’ ability to flout Net Neutrality principles.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed an order that mandates broadband companies doing business in the state must abide by some key Net Neutrality rules. The order takes effect March 1 and prohibits carriers that contract with state agencies from blocking, throttling, or prioritizing content or applications, and from charging consumers “different or higher rates to access specific types of content or applications.”

People gathered outside Sen John Kennedy’s four Louisiana offices Tuesday, delivering petitions and waving signs urging the senator to vote for a resolution that would restore Net Neutrality.

The battle to restore Net Neutrality received a huge boost on Wednesday when New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order directing state agencies to not enter into any contracts with internet service providers unless they follow Net Neutrality principles.
