WASHINGTON – Responding to reports that the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission are taking a closer look into allegations that Carrier IQ software is tracking cellphone activity and sharing it without the users’ knowledge, Free Press Policy Director Matt Wood made the following statement:

“We’re pleased that both the FCC and the FTC are looking into this issue. Cellphone users have a right to know who may be watching them when they use their devices — and what is being done with their data.”

Earlier this month, Free Press called on Congress and the Department of Justice to investigate Carrier IQ's practices.
