Mobile-phone access will soon be universal. The next task is to do the same for the Internet. Mobile broadband could be the dominant form of broadband worldwide.

Politicians Fail to Grasp Peer-to-Peer

Full article: New York Times
Eric Pfanner
Every new effort to crack down on file-sharing seems to embolden groups devoted to an unfettered Internet, demonstrating that anti-piracy strategies based largely on enforcement are bound to fail. If consumers can figure out peer-to-peer, perhaps it is time for lawmakers to do the same.

One Internet Village, Divided: In Developing Countries, Web Grows Without Profit

Brad Stone and Miguel Helft
Facebook is booming in Turkey and Indonesia. YouTube's audience has nearly doubled in India and Brazil. That may seem like good news. But it's also a major reason these and other Web companies with big global audiences and renowned brands struggle to turn even a tiny profit.

Argentine President's Media Reform Stirs Suspicions

Helen Popper
Argentina President Cristina Fernandez wants to media reforms that would limit the number of broadcast licenses one company can hold locally and nationally, increase the number of soccer games shown on free channels instead of pay-TV, and guarantee a share of the airwaves for nonprofit groups. Some say she simply wants to hush her critics during an election campaign.

Barbara Frye
By now, stories of dying newspapers have become familiar to readers in the United States. But whereas in the West the phenomenon is largely a result of declining circulation and competition from online publications, in Russia and elsewhere it has been helped along mightily by governments.
