Kevin Roderick
The Los Angeles Times announced that the design, news operations and Web operations staffs would be combined into one department, along with at least some of the copy editors. Marc Hogan
As radio station ownership consolidates into fewer and fewer hands, the corporate suits are betting they can get by with fewer and fewer voices, too. Clear Channel, the biggest radio conglomerate, laid off dozens or more local DJs earlier this week, hitting small stations from Syracuse, N.Y., to Spokane, Wash.

Clear Channel Radio Lays Off DJs

Full article: MediaPost
Erik Sass
Clear Channel Radio, the nation's largest broadcast radio group, has dismissed a large -- but undisclosed -- number of DJs from radio stations in small and mid-sized markets across the country. The move is widely seen as a prelude to implementing more automated or national syndicated programming.

Why Not Occupy Newsrooms?

Full article: New York Times
David Carr
Forget about occupying Wall Street; maybe it's time to start occupying Main Street, a place big media enterprises have bled dry by offering less and less news while dumping and furloughing journalists in seemingly every quarter. The consequences of bad decisions by media CEOs have landed on everyone except those who made them.
