After ten years, tens of thousands of petition signatures, and hundreds of phone calls -- the Local Community Radio Act was passed by the entire House of Representatives. Now it's up to the Senate, who have finally realized they need to pass some legislation before they go home for the year. We've got to try and get this bill on their agenda.

The major record labels, three of four of which are based overseas, are asking Congress to impose hundreds of millions in new fees on local radio stations to help rescue their failing business model. If enacted, a performance tax could force radio stations to cut more jobs and reduce their fund-raising and public service initiatives.

The bill would expand LPFM community radio nationwide, allowing hundreds of community groups, schools, municipalities and religious organizations to apply for new noncommercial radio licenses in cities and towns across the United States.
