Comcast-NBC Pledge Diversity Channels

David Goetzl
Despite one senator's efforts, Comcast continues to have no plans to divest its stake in Hulu if a joint venture with NBC Universal is completed. But looking to appeal to legislators, Comcast pledged to add eight independent TV networks -- four each controlled by African-American and Hispanic interests -- to its cable system, while creating a $20 million fund to assist minority entrepreneurs.

New Research: Comcast-NBC Merger Will Hit Chicago Hard

Full article: StopBigMedia.com
Nick Russo
Chicago is a city already plagued by media consolidation: just four companies control nearly two-thirds of the local news market with the Tribune Company owning some of the most prominent media properties across the city. If Comcast were to swallow up NBC, it would own nearly one quarter of Chicago's commercial cable channels in the most popular cable package.

John Eggerton
At a House Communications Subcommittee hearing on video competition, small cable operators testified that the cost of programming has exploded, but Congress wouldn't know because of nondisclosure terms in their contracts. They urged Congress to require transparency in cost per channel and rethink retransmission rules.
