Why Are News Corrections So Hard?

Full article: Knight Digital Media Center
Amy Gahran
While it's free and very easy to simply add some strikethrough formatting or clarifying/corrective text on a blog, many mainstream news organizations' websites are supported by outdated print- or broadcast-focused content management systems which don't handle corrections easily or flexibly. But the deeper issue may be an attitude that persists in the culture of professional journalism that corrections are black marks of shame to be avoided as much as possible.

We're All Fact-Checkers Now

Full article: Huffington Post
Esther Dyson
Spin, propaganda, and censorship persist in journalism, but with one big difference: Almost anyone can now operate as a reporter. How can we ensure that these self-nominated reporters respect the truth? Everyone has to become a better reader -- more skeptical and more curious.
