Al Franken Makes Senate Stand for Net Neutrality

Full article: Huffington Post
Timothy Karr
Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) took to the Senate floor to call on his colleagues to reject a House effort to take away our most basic Net Neutrality freedoms. After his speech Franken received 87,000 letters from Free Press activists (including 2,000 Minnesotans) opposing the House's effort to undo the FCC's open Internet rules. As more Americans voice their concerns about this new threat to the Internet, we must make certain that our Senators hear us before it's too late.

Net Neutrality Gives Small Businesses a Boost

Full article: Reno Gazette-Journal
Rhonda Abrams
Last week, while the media was focused on whether or not the federal government would shut down, another piece of legislation passed the U.S. House of Representatives with critical implications for small business. The bill would end the FCC's ability to ensure Net Neutrality. If the bill is passed, telecom and cable companies can tilt the playing field -- and it won't be toward small businesses and startups.

Net Neutrality: End of the Web as We Know It

Rhonda Abrams
Last week, while the media was focused on whether the U.S. government would shut down, another piece of legislation passed the House of Representatives with critical implications for small business. The bill would end the FCC's ability to insure what's called Net Neutrality. It was a pure "David versus Goliath" bill, and the House voted to protect Goliath.

Assault on Network Neutrality a Strike at Free Speech

Full article: Oregon Daily Emerald
Bruce Poinsette
Besides being a serious impediment to free speech, the assault on Net Neutrality amounts to an economic coup. When Republican lawmakers make claims about stifling investment in broadband, they are really referring to investment in the existing service providers and the wealthiest content producers. The basic principles of economics tell us that more competition equals lower prices. If service providers are allowed to be the gatekeepers for the Internet, then they can eliminate competition and charge as much as they want for their services and those of the highest bidders.

Opponent of Net Neutrality Rules Vows to Rein in FCC

Cassie M. Chew
The sponsor of the resolution to strike down the FCC's Net Neutrality rule said that his efforts to rein in the FCC will not stop there. "The FCC is a creation of the Congress," Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) told members of the American Cable Association. "I think that the responsibility lies with Congress to say you don’t have the ability to do what you do."

House to Vote on Anti-Net Neutrality Measure; Administration Threatens Veto

Jonathan Charnitski
The House of Representatives is anticipated to hold a floor debate and vote this week on a measure that would put the kibosh on Net Neutrality rules passed by the FCC late last year, but the White House has said that it would likely veto such a measure should it come across the President's desk.

To Create Jobs, Keep Internet Open

Robin Chase
Low barriers to market entry encourage innovation, entrepreneurship and job creation. High costs and bureaucracy stifle it. The FCC order is about maintaining low cost and open access to the Internet. We need the FCC order to protect the Internet, because without it every Internet user is at the mercy of the two major companies that provide access to it.

Tea Party, Corporate Front Groups Urge Democrats to Cave on Net Neutrality

Timothy Karr
Net Neutrality, the First Amendment of the Internet, has come under withering attack from the Astroturf lobby -- corporate front groups that are determined to hand control of the Internet to companies like AT&T and Comcast. Their battle strategy involves getting a handful of House Democrats to vote in favor of a measure that would strip the FCC of its ability to protect freedom of speech and choice for Internet users.
