AOL's Newsroom Is Now Bigger Than The New York Times'

Full article: Business Insider
Henry Blodget
AOL's news and content operation now has three main parts: Huffington Post, Patch, and the legacy AOL brands and sites. At last count, Patch had about 800 editorial staffers, Huffpo about 200, and the rest of AOL about 300. Given that massive investment, the next question is whether AOL is deploying these 1,300 folks in the best way possible.

Colbert-Stewart Rally Raises Question: Where Is Journalism Headed?

Gloria Goodale
If you thought the "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" coming up on Oct. 30 in Washington was just a date for some good laughs and maybe hot entertainment, think again. It is also shaping up as yet another event in the ongoing dialogue about where journalism is headed in the brave world of new media -- where points of view are welcome, but facts, fairness and independence are still very much needed.

Edward Helmore
Tina Brown, one of New York's best-established British media figures, has set her sights on Newsweek, the historic but ailing weekly news magazine, in a move that could intensify her rivalry with Arianna Huffington, proprietor of internet magazine the Huffington Post.

David Simon, Arianna Huffington and the Future of Journalism

Full article: The Nation
John Nichols
Much was made of the supposed clash between "old-media" David Simon and "new-media" Arianna Huffington at the Senate hearing on the future of journalism. The truth is that both of them are right. Yes, newspapers are dying, and no, Internet journalism is not filling the void. But it might; in fact, it almost certainly must.

Arianna Huffington: Post Hostess

Choire Sicha
It wasn't the Bush administration that fueled the distrust of the media. The media's complicity in the lead-up to the war in Iraq is one of the darkest moments in the history of American media. And that helped fuel a lot of the dissatisfaction.
