KEvin Bogardus
Telecom behemoth AT&T has begun shedding lobbyists in the wake of its failed merger with T-Mobile. At least four lobby firms that lobbied on the merger have filed termination reports this month indicating they no longer work for the phone company, according to lobbying disclosure records.

Google's Spreading Tentacles of Influence

Rob Levine
Google isn't hurting for a voice in Washington. Facing increasing regulatory scrutiny, the company spent $5.4 million on political outreach in the first three quarters of 2011, more than it did in all of 2010, and more even than Microsoft.

AT&T/T-Mobile: Why this New Monopoly Is Bad for Consumers

Full article: PCWorld
Tom Henderson
U.S. Federal Judge Harold Greene broke up AT&T in an antitrust suit that started in 1949. Now, after the acquisition of T-Mobile, AT&T&T will dominate again. If you though that the U.S. mobile market was ugly, AT&T&T will prove the point that monopolies stink.

Lawmakers Wooed on Mega-Merger

Full article: Politico
Kim Hart
The Capitol Hill lobbying campaign surrounding the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile continues to escalate. Proponents of the deal are circulating a letter on Capitol Hill that touts its potential benefits. They are seeking to persuade Democratic members -- particularly those who represent rural districts -- to sign on in support of the increased broadband coverage that advocates say will result from the acquisition. But Free Press has sent its own letter to House and Senate leaders, suggesting that AT&T's promises are "greatly overstated."

AT&T Ramps Up Lobby for Proposed T-Mobile Merger

Full article: Washington Post
Cecilia Kang
Opponents of AT&T's proposed merger with T-Mobile filed last-minute petitions to federal regulators in hopes of blocking the $39 billion mega-deal. But they are going up against a deep-pocketed telecom giant that's just getting started on its own campaign to influence the decision.

Tony Romm
AT&T's purchase of T-Mobile may or may not be a boon for shareholders and wireless users, but two groups are almost sure to win big: Lawmakers and the lobbyists paid to influence them.

Telecom Tussle Over Public Safety

Full article: Politico
Tony Romm
The campaign to create a nationwide wireless network for police officers and firefighters hasn't just been about what works best for public safety almost a decade after Sept. 11. In Washington, it's been about what works for top telecom companies, too. At the heart of the unfolding debate on Capitol Hill has been a heavily moneyed battle between Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and other top telecom providers and equipment makers.

Verizon Pretends Neutrality Support Was Political Kryptonite

Karl Bode
Scott Cleland's claim that Net Neutrality support was political kryptonite quickly began bouncing around mainstream media outlets as gospel truth. Not outlets noted that Cleland isn't just an "opponent" of Network Neutrality, he's a paid lobbying and public relations employee of AT&T, Verizon and Comcast. In other words, assuming these politicians lost their jobs due to Net Neutrality support is a stretch Cleland was paid to make.
