On Thursday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit issued its long-awaited verdict on the Federal Communications Commission’s disputed media ownership rules. The court threw out FCC rules that would have allowed one company to own a newspaper and broadcast stations in the same market and upheld the FCC’s decision to retain its other local broadcast ownership restrictions.

The International Labor Communications Association Convention is a rare opportunity to show the collective power of labor media, doing what we do best, together. From September 10 to September 12, ILCA’s media teams dig into the real effects of the world’s economy on ordinary Americans. Through training sessions and participation in real community journalism, attendees gain viable technical skills and valuable insight into the power of community media to tell the stories that really matter in our own communities.

Todd Wolfson and Hannah Sassaman
Philadelphia is lining up for a race with a big prize -- tens of millions of dollars in stimulus money to expand Internet access. The city has led an open process for designing an application for a slice of the stimulus money, which could change how Philadelphians communicate, for good.
