The Youth Media Summit will consist of four one-day symposiums to provide a public forum for discussion about media and news literacy in America. Participants shall include educators, community leaders, media professionals, journalists, nonprofit leaders, policymakers and students.

Each Summit will focus on best practices, expertise, needs and opportunities within the host community.

On Thursday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit issued its long-awaited verdict on the Federal Communications Commission’s disputed media ownership rules. The court threw out FCC rules that would have allowed one company to own a newspaper and broadcast stations in the same market and upheld the FCC’s decision to retain its other local broadcast ownership restrictions.

President Barack Obama awarded a $6.4 Million grant to the City of Philadelphia to create or enhance 77 public computer centers. Nearly 50 percent of the population in the targeted areas do not have Internet access. The award will enable residents to conduct job searches, access benefits, find life-saving health information, find stable housing and complete homework assignments to help them succeed in school.

PhIJI is a forum for Philadelphia-area journalists and aspiring journalists to communicate about best practices, discuss issues facing journalism and journalists, and offer feedback on entrepreneurial ideas.
