Daily Newspaper's Death Leaves Ann Arbor at a Loss

Full article: Columbus Dispatch
Joe Hallett
Across Ann Arbor, a city of 114,000, residents are coming to grips with the loss of their venerable daily newspaper, replaced by a Web version. Ann Arbor -- with its powerhouse university, world-class medical center, well-educated populace and an economy the envy of a down-and-out state - seems an unlikely destination for the ink-stained Grim Reaper.

Geoff Larcom
A publishing tradition that began in 1835, when an optimistic pioneer printer named Earl P. Gardiner started the Michigan Argus, enters a dramatic new era: The Ann Arbor News is closing.

Full article: Christian Science Monitor
Dante Chinni
In July, the Ann Arbor News will cease daily publication after 174 years. It will be replaced by a Web-based news outlet that will publish a print paper twice weekly -- on Thursdays and Sundays. That news has left many people in this well-educated community of readers unfazed.

Jim Rosenberg
While the Ann Arbor News' printing plant will continue to operate even as the organization changes to AnnArbor.com, the Flint Journal's press eventually will fall silent after that paper joins two other Advance Publications Michigan dailies in moving to thrice-weekly publication.
