Full article: Huffington Post
Michael McAuliff and Ryan Grim
News Corp. honcho Rupert Murdoch threw his weight behind Congress' attempt to restrict the Internet, personally lobbying leaders on Capitol Hill for two measures that purport to combat piracy. Murdoch's media empire is among some 350 large corporations that have come out in favor of the Stop Online Piracy Act in the House, as well as the Protect IP Act in the Senate.

In the Belly of the Murdoch Beast

Dave Saldana
I always feel a little better when I go home to Los Angeles. My hometown takes a lot of flak about its Tinseltown image and how "fake" the people are supposed to be. But I can assure you that the working folks of my hometown are as real as the 99-percenters anywhere else in the country. Last week, more than a hundred of my fellow "real" Angelenos took their concerns about the corporate media and their power to corrupt our democracy right into the lap of one of their most notorious figures: News Corp. potentate Rupert Murdoch.

Turmoil Engulfs News Corp. Meeting

Dylan Byers
"I think we’ve had enough questions," Rupert Murdoch told News Corp. shareholders, less than an hour and a half into the company's annual shareholder meeting at Fox Studios in Los Angeles. "I declare the meeting finished." The meeting wasn’t actually finished -- shareholders had yet to vote on whether Murdoch, the company's CEO, should continue as chairman. But Murdoch was at least able to bring an abrupt halt to a meeting that had gotten embarrassing.

News Corp. said all 15 directors were elected at the meeting in Los Angeles, while a proposal to split Murdoch's role as chairman and chief executive officer was rejected. The company failed to provide vote totals as it has in the past. Complete results will be filed with regulators early this week, according to a statement.

Rupert Murdoch Assailed at News Corp. Annual Meeting

Full article: CBC News
The News Corp. annual shareholders meeting was a closely controlled affair, held on a Fox studio lot behind tight security. Shareholders and media could only be bused in by News Corp. to evade the 200 or so protesters outside, no recording devices were permitted at the event and the Fox lot's normal Wi-Fi access was cut off.

Lisa Derrick
As the News Corp. Board of Directors held their annual shareholders meeting, close to two hundred demonstrators from Good Jobs LA, Brave New Foundation, NABET-CWA and others joined with Occupy LA, AAVAZ.org, Free Press and Common Cause to protest the media giant's behavior -- including having politicians on their payroll as media commentators and authors, phone hacking and bribery, one-sided reporting, use of faulty statistics, bad governance, and most especially, not acting in the public interest.
