A group of satellite broadband providers -- Dish Network, EchoStar Technologies, ViaSat/Wildblue Communications and Hughes Network Systems -- told the FCC that they should be allowed to participate in the Connect America Fund. The group stated that satellite broadband providers should "be permitted to compete on an equal basis with other providers for funding to add the capacity needed to serve the unserved."

The New Mexico Delegation sent a letter to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski supporting the goal of universal broadband for the agency's National Broadband Plan to bring high-speed Internet to all Americans.

In the letter, the U.S. Congress members point to their state's ranking as forty-sixth among all states in the percentage of Internet users and highlight the need for broadband ubiquity, particularly for geographically isolated communities.
