Kevin C. Tofel
Verizon’s move this week to follow rival AT&T by eliminating unlimited data plans may not affect most smartphone users today, but could impact them in the future as handsets are used for more purposes. Deciding which data plan will be enough for a month of smartphone use, without choosing a higher priced plan that provides more bandwidth than is needed represents a growing challenge.

Full article: Broadband Reports
Karl Bode
As we've complained about for years, the FCC has traditionally made broadband policy decisions based on flawed data. Our new, more "sciency" FCC is slowly changing that and a new study by the agency found that between 14 and 24 million Americans still lack access to broadband.

High-Speed Internet Connection Too Costly for Many FCC Finds

Full article: Los Angeles Times
Don Reisinger
In an attempt to determine why more Web users aren't using a broadband connection to surf the Web, the FCC surveyed over 5,000 Americans to see what is stopping them from using high-speed Internet services. The study found that 36 percent of adults said they lack a broadband connection at home because the monthly fee to connect to the Web is too high.

Tony Romm
The public-interest group Free Press is now calling on the FCC to release the full results of its new broadband subscriber study. While the FCC has made an analysis of that data available a full release is the only way to ensure the FCC is not "missing some key gems" about national broadband usage, accessibility and competition.
