The (Actual) Future of the Big Idea

Full article: Nieman Journalism Lab
Megan Garber
The critics are right: Neal Gabler's essay in the New York Times — the one proclaiming the death of the big idea at the hands of Twitter and Facebook and the Internet in general — is wrong. Thought is everywhere; new ideas are springing up every day, and getting tested and tapered and honed; and they are, far from inculcating apathy, inciting revolutions both literal and figurative, around the world and across the Web.

Failure Is Totally an Option: Free Press Launches MediaFAIL Project

Full article: Bitch Magazine
Andi Zeisler
The point of Free Press' online tool, MediaFAIL, isn't to simply chuckle at the crappy coverage, biased reporting, and egregious sexism and racism of so much mainstream media. The aim of the project's is not just give the media a failing grade, but to help improve the media so it will pass..

Richard Siklos
It's the back half of December and that can only mean one thing: the annual cavalcade of "top 10" lists for the year. What is especially intriguing this year is to review what wasn't. Here are just a few of the top non-developments of 2008.

Dan Farber
Barack Obama will be the most shadowed president in history, and it won't be just the Secret Service and press corps surrounding him. Citizens and paparazzi armed with camera phones and a variety of other multimedia devices will chronicle every movement he makes in public and post it online.
