Kim McAvoy
Free Press, an advocacy group opposed to media consolidation, thinks that FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski should rearrange his schedule and preside at the agency's public forum on the proposed Comcast-NBCU merger in Chicago on July 13.

Dueling Hearings on Comcast-NBC Merger

Curtis Black
The FCC comes to Chicago July 13, for a hearing on the proposed merger of Comcast and NBC-Universal. So why is a local member of Congress — with a history of ties to the telecommunications industry — holding his own hearing a few days earlier?

Eating Broadband for Breakfast: Doomsday Scenarios for Chicago's Media Landscape

Full article: Gapers Block
Timna Axel
Chicago will be the center for hearings on the Comcast-NBC merger for the next week. On July 8, there is a congressional hearing. And the FCC will be in town on July 13, for a public hearing. The $28 billion deal could lay off workers, kill local news, monopolize Chicago's telecom market, herald the destruction of broadcast television and prefigure the corporate hijacking of fair and open Internet -- indeed, the end of the World Wide Web as we know it.

If Verizon Wants to Discuss a Fifth Principle of Net Neutrality, We Need a Rulemaking

Full article: Public Knowledge
Harold Feld
Verizon's willingness to discuss a fifth principle of Net Neutrality should not magically make the debate disappear into backrooms. We need an open debate, where Verizon and other providers spell out exactly what they mean, where members of the public can respond, and where we end up with rules that protect an open Internet.
