GOP Attempt to Overturn FCC's Net Neutrality Rules Fails in Senate

Full article: The Wrap
Peter Voskamp
The Senate narrowly overturned a Republican-sponsored "resolution of disapproval," aimed at overturning new FCC Net Neutrality rules, set to go into effect Nov. 20. The Republican-held House of Representatives voted against the FCC's rules last spring. However, the 52-to-46 Senate vote amounted to a symbolic exercise, as President Obama pledged to veto any resolution challenging the FCC's Open Internet regulations.

Katy Bachman
One way to kill AT&T's $39 billion deal to acquire T-Mobile is to make AT&T look even bigger and badder. In an attempt to do just that, five public interest groups joined together to fire off a letter to the FCC, in which they ask that the regulator combine its review of the T-Mobile deal with a separate review of AT&T's plan to buy $1.9 billion worth of wireless spectrum from Qualcomm.

Josh Smith
A coalition of public interest groups is urging federal regulators to investigate wireless provider MetroPCS for blocking certain Internet content. In a letter, the groups accuse MetroPCS of violating recently enacted Net Neutrality rules that prohibit anti-competitive blocking and degrading of competing online services and are enforceable by the FCC.

MetroPCS Finds Itself in Net Neutrality Debate

Roger Cheng
MetroPCS unveiled a more affordable data plan for its faster 4-G network, which allows for basic Internet browsing, access to YouTube but limited ability to tap into other websites. That specific access to one website, however, has become a point of contention with consumer advocate groups, which filed a complaint this week to the FCC, arguing that the company is selectively blocking certain sites.
