Full article: Free Press
On Friday, hundreds of people gathered on the street outside News Corp.’s annual shareholders' meeting to protest the media giant, which has been embroiled in a scandal over allegations of widespread phone hacking, bribery and extortion. The loose affiliation of groups that demonstrated on Friday -- including Common Cause, OccupyLA, Free Press, Avaaz.org, Change to Win, Good Jobs LA, Brave New Foundation, National Lawyers Guild and others -- demanded that News Corp. shareholders make company executives and the board accountable to U.S. law and the public interest.

From Los Angeles to London, Murdoch's Hacking Woes Set to Play Out

Full article: Media Matters for America
Eric Boehlert
Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. phone-hacking scandal, now in its third month as a primetime news attraction, has become so sprawling that in coming days key events are scheduled to unfold across eight time zones, from Los Angeles to New York to London. The global showdowns are sure to highlight just how far the conservative media mogul has to go before putting the tarnishing scandal behind him, if that's even possible. They'll also shine a spotlight on how poorly his company is run, as well as on a corporate culture where cutting ethical corners seems to be commonplace.

News Corp. Protesters Issue List of Grievances

Timothy Karr
A coalition of concerned citizens, labor organizations, advocacy groups and OccupyLA protesters will demonstrate outside News Corporation's annual shareholders' meeting on Oct. 21. Under Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. has accumulated toxic levels of media power -- including cable channels, news networks, newspapers, television stations, movie studios and more. News Corp. leverages its news and entertainment empire to bully regulators, elect compliant politicians, gain regulatory favors and undermine the public interest.

Twitter on the Barricades: Six Lessons Learned

Noam Cohen
Social networking has already been credited with aiding protests from Egypt to Iceland. And Twitter has been identified with two mass protests in a matter of months -- in Moldova in April and in Iran last week. But does the label Twitter Revolution, which has been slapped on the two most recent events, oversell the technology?
