Arnold Brian Dengler
The FCC says that there is a lack of local news coverage to hold government agencies, schools and businesses accountable, in a new report released today by the agency. "In many communities, there are now more outlets, but less local accountability reporting," say the FCC's Working Group on the Information Needs of Communities.

Jared Keller
Billing itself as an "aggregator of online sources and discussion, seeking out unheard voices, new perspectives from people on the ground and untold angles related to the most compelling stories of the day," The Stream looks to be a distillation of Al Jazeera’s signature global coverage with an eye towards the social media reporting.

Matt DeRienzo is a publisher who is trying to innovate in a very traditional and historically change-averse field -- newspapers. What does he need from the newsrooms he oversees to implement a "digital first" strategy? He has a five-point wish list.

Another Online Milestone for the Pulitzer Prize

Full article: Nieman Journalism Lab
Justin Ellis
It's prize season for journalists, and today came the biggest of them all: the Pulitzer Prizes. And the trend toward online-only news organizations playing a part in what has traditionally been a newspaper game continues. In the journalism categories, of the 1,097 total entries, about 100 came from online-only outlets. Those entries came from 60 different news organizations. That's a healthy growth curve, considering that in 2009, the first year online entries were welcomed, 37 organizations submitted 65 entries.
