The Web's New Walls

Full article: The Economist
In theory, competition between providers of internet access should prevent companies from erecting tollbooths on the Internet. Any broadband provider that tries to block particular sites or services, would quickly lose customers to rival firms -- provided there are plenty of them. But that is not the case in America. The best solution to Net Neutrality would be to require telecoms operators to open their high-speed networks to rivals on a wholesale basis, as is the case almost everywhere in the industrialized world.

Garlin Gilchrist II
Amplifying authentic voices is the role of the community organizer working for positive change. Listening to authentic voices is the role of the policy maker wanting to create responsible regulation & legislation. Open networks make this all possible.

Defining Open Mobile

Full article: Telephony Online
There's no doubt mobile operators, led by Verizon Wireless, are opening up their networks. But is that enough to guarantee success in a world where Apple, Google and an array of app upstarts are competing for their share of the stage? What does it mean to be open in the mobile industry?

Mobile Groups Protest Proposed Net Neutrality Rules

Grant Gross
Until now, the FCC has focused its Net Neutrality principles on wired carriers. But consumer groups and other pro-Net Neutrality advocates say the consumer expectations are no different on mobile broadband networks. And mobile carriers are speaking out against open networks.

FCC to Draft Net Neutrality Rules,Taking Steps Toward Web Regulation

Full article: Washington Post
Cecilia Kang
The FCC voted unanimously to begin crafting rules to prevent Internet providers from acting as gatekeepers over which services and content are delivered to their customers. The vote kicks off a months-long process to draft the new rules in a effort that promises to be contentious.

Chloe Albanesius and Mark Hachman
Reaction to the FCC's Net Neutrality proposal continues to roll in, and while the usual suspects were elated, the chairman's effort to make the process more transparent and collaborative also appears to have allayed fears among major critics like AT&T.

Net Neutrality Is a Good Investment

Craig Aaron
One of the most pervasive myths being peddled by Net Neutrality opponents is the idea that protecting the free and open Internet will somehow hinder investment in the telecommunications sector. But that's just not true, and a new report has the data to prove it.

Erick Schmidt and Lowell McAdam
Google and Verizon have come together to comment on the FCC's Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. They say that they are ready to engage in the policy discussion. They also agree that they want the FCC to implement existing Net Neutrality principles on a case-by-case basis.
