'Baltimore Sun' Plans Pay Wall

Full article: MediaPost
Erik Sass
The list of newspapers charging readers for access to online content is growing longer. The Baltimore Sun will begin selling digital subscriptions to its website on Oct. 10. This will make the Sun the first newspaper owned by Tribune Co. to erect an online pay wall -- possibly foreshadowing similar moves at other big Tribune papers, including the Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times.

Evan Serpick
Given the mighty woes of newspapers nationally and the turmoil at the Baltimore Sun and its parent Tribune Co. in particular, the question has increasingly been asked, What can be done to save the Sun? There are also the question's more ominous corollaries: Can the Sun be saved? Should it?

Baltimore Sun Cuts Third of Newsroom

Full article: Baltimore Sun
Lorraine Mirabella
The Baltimore Sun has cut its newsroom staff by nearly a third in a reorganization the company said would help it not just survive but succeed in one of the worst economic downturns in decades. The moves were made as the parent company, Tribune Co., is restructuring the Sun's newsroom.

Richard Perez-Pena
The Washington Post and the Baltimore Sun announced that they would share some of their articles and pictures. The move adds two major players to the fast-growing roster of newspapers that are cooperating with their regional competitors to get more coverage out of their diminished news staffs.
