Cenk Uygur vs. 'The Club'

Full article: Google
Timothy Karr
Cenk Uygur explains his departure from MSNBC. It's an interesting story of corporate and official pressure to change Cenk's "outsider" tone. The management pulled him aside to ask him to "tone it down" and accept that he's now an insider. "We are the establishment," an executive told him, and that people in Washington were concerned. Cenk opted to do the opposite and his viewers responded, with higher ratings. But that wasn't enough for management. Cenk believes he was let go because he wouldn't change his tone.

Sam Schechner and Lauren A. E. Schuker
The announcement that Keith Olbermann would leave capped months of internal tension, during which Olbermann's representatives sought at least twice to be bought out of his contract, and MSNBC laid the groundwork to replace the man who had juiced its audience but rankled its executives.

Bill Carter
Keith Olbermann, the highest-rated host on MSNBC, announced abruptly on the air that he was leaving his show, "Countdown," immediately. The host, who has had a stormy relationship with the management of the network for some time, especially since he was suspended for two days last November, came to an agreement with NBC's corporate management late this week to settle his contract and step down.

Phil Rosenthal
Provocative liberal commentator Keith Olbermann is done at MSNBC, the cable network he helped define and for which he has been the top draw. Neither Olbermann nor MSNBC shed much light on reasons for the divorce.

Lisa de Moraes
"Had I known that all this would happen, I would have done this years ago!" MSNBC star Keith Olbermann said as he returned to the cable news network after having been suspended for two days over political contributions he made during this year's election. MSNBC was thinking exactly the same thing upon hearing the ratings report.

Bill Carter
In an aggressive statement questioning the legitimacy of his two-day suspension from MSNBC, Keith Olbermann told his fans that they were responsible for his scheduled return to the air after revelations that he had contributed to the campaign funds of three Democrats in last week's election.

John Eggerton
Comcast says it had no role in the suspension or reinstatement of MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann. Some speculation had been swirling that Comcast might have had some influence on the decision.

Sara Jerome
Susan Crawford, a former special assistant to President Barack Obama for technology policy, sees a potential culprit in MSNBC's decision to suspend anchor Keith Olbermann: Maybe Comcast had something to do with it. Comcast is in the midst of a merger with NBC Universal, the owner of MSNBC.

Olbermann, Impartiality and MSNBC

David Carr
If MSNBC were really worried about coming off as impartial, don't you think it would have chosen somebody besides Keith Olbermann, one of the most rabidly partisan figures in national news, to anchor its election coverage? Even Fox News knows better than to do something like that.
