Let's Expand Low Power FM

Full article: Houston Chronicle
Duane Bradley
Low Power radio stations are rare. There are only about 800 nationwide licensed to educational, religious or community groups. But an FCC-commissioned study proved that there was plenty of room for LPFMs. The Senate should follow the lead of the House and pass the Local Community Radio Act.

Local Radio Bill Advances to Full House Vote

Full article: NewPublicMedia.org
Megan Tady
The Local Community Radio Act (HR 1147) has just scored another big win in Congress. The full House Energy and Commerce Committee passed the bill. This may seem like a small step, but for a bill that's lingered in Congress for a long time, it's a giant leap.

In the case of our quest to pass the Local Community Radio Act, which could put new LPFM stations on the air across the country, there are numerous stories to tell.

Saeed Shabazz
Advances in technology and an old school sense of mission are driving Black media makers to find new ways to communicate, organize and advocate.
