Full article: Light Reading
Jeff Baumgartner
Charter still considers video an important part of its business, but the MSO plans to take advantage of its high-speed Internet platform to drive growth and steal away DSL subs from competitors such as AT&T and CenturyLink, echoing a strategy underway at Time Warner Cable, which now views broadband as its "anchor service."

At the bottom of the list, alongside banks and insurance companies, sits most of the nation's cable companies, including Charter and Time Warner Cable. Comcast resides at the very bottom at position 143.

Jim Gallagher
People who watch lots of movies and videos on the Internet will run into a toll booth if they get their Internet service through AT&T. Starting May 2, AT&T will set Internet usage caps for its DSL and U-verse customers. Repeatedly go over the cap, and you'll pay extra. Charter and Comcast already have data caps.

David Goetzl
A top Charter Communications executive said there have been minimal complaints about a new charge rooted in payments the cable operator is making to broadcasters, adding that the customer fee could help modify price increases.

Charter Responds to Consumer Pricing Concerns with Price Hikes

Full article: Broadband Reports
Karl Bode
The seriousness with which cable companies take consumer concerns about high prices is reflected in the way they continue to gleefully impose rate hikes on not only cable TV, but DVR rentals and other services. Charter is illustrating what they think about cord cutters and those struggling financially, by sending out notices saying they'll be hiking the price of, well, everything.

Stacey Higginbotham
Charter Cable plans to start enforcing monthly data caps on its users in December. The cable operator will also implement a congestion management plan similar to the one Comcast designed after it got in trouble with the FCC for blocking P2P files in 2008.

Harry A. Jessell
Is Charter Communications, the big St. Louis-based cable company, gouging its customers? It sure seems like it. Cable's sixth largest operator has begun itemizing the fees that it pays to local broadcasters for the privilege of retransmitting their signals to its subscribers.
