A federal court has lifted a key set of government rules aimed at curbing media consolidation in the United States. The media reform group Free Press urged the FCC to respond to the ruling.

Economy Is FCC's Top Job, Says McDowell

Full article: Broadcasting & Cable
John Eggerton
In a recent interview, FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell says he believes that the agency should be more concerned about bolstering the sagging economy than involving itself in the "regulatory arbitrage" that just takes away from one market player to give to another. He also wants to "lift any regulatory boulders" off broadcasters and newspapers.

McDowell suggested that broadcasters might rescue some beleaguered newspapers. But others say broadcasters have their own problems.
