Apple Accused in Suit of Tracking iPad, iPhone User Location

Full article: Bloomberg
Karen Gullo
Apple was accused of invasion of privacy and computer fraud by two customers who claim in a lawsuit that the company is secretly recording movements of iPhone and iPad users. The Apple customers said they were unaware of the tracking system and never consented to it. Even if they disable the global-positioning function on their devices, the tracking system keeps working, according to the complaint.

Judge Slams Righthaven's Legal Tactics, Unseals Document that May Undermine All Righthaven Cases

Mike Masnick
A fascinating series of events in one key Righthaven lawsuit might lead to the collapse of most, if not all, of Righthaven's cases. Righthaven is the somewhat sketchy company that was funded by Stephens Media (the publisher of the Las Vegas Review-Journal) for the purpose of effectively shaking down anyone who posted LVRJ content to the Web.

Microsoft Takes Patent Battle to Supreme Court

Full article: CNet
Jay Greene
In 2007, i4i sued Microsoft, claiming that the software giant violated one of its patents covering the way XML, or Extensible Markup Language, is used in its Word program. A jury ruled in i4i's favor, prompting a Microsoft appeal, which it also lost. Microsoft petitioned the Supreme Court to take up the case, which the court agreed to do last November. That has turned the case into one of the most important patent battles in years.

Mike Masnick
One of the tidbits that came out of the YouTube-Viacom lawsuit was the fact that Viacom quite frequently would upload its own clips to YouTube, but did so trying to pretend they were pirated clips.

Wendy Davis
Recent revisions that Facebook made to its privacy settings not only didn't fix the problems, but made them worse, say a group of consumers who are suing the company.
