<itunes:summary>As News Corp. owner Rupert Murdoch tries to minimize the phone-hacking scandal that has led to several arrests and snared British officials and police in a web of unethical and possibly criminal behavior, U.S. public interest groups and some members of Congress are seizing the opportunity to call attention to the dangers of too much media in too few powerful hands. And a “broadband underclass” is developing in America as some populations soar with the fastest broadband connections available and others plod along with slow or no connections at all</itunes:summary>

Net Neutrality's New Enemy: The Mythical Mushy Middle

Full article: Huffington Post
Craig Aaron
If we're ever going to safeguard the open Internet, the time is now. But all of this noise and attention is making certain people very uncomfortable. You know the type: I call them the guardians of the mythical mushy middle. And I'm starting to think these self-righteous, can't-we-all-just-get-along zealots of moderation are more dangerous to the prospects of Net Neutrality than the greedy industry CEOs, their hired guns, or even Glenn Beck.

Public Forum on Journalism in Denver

Full article: SavetheNews.org
Megan Tady
We could just sit back and bemoan the crisis facing journalism. Or we could do something about it. We’re choosing the latter. SaveTheNews.org is hosting a free community forum in Denver, Colo., to discuss what policies we need -- and what actions we can take -- to support quality journalism.

Craig Aaron: 'Journalism Is a Public Service'

Full article: Free Press
Craig Aaron
Journalism is indispensable in a democratic society. So if the market is failing, what should we do? First, we need to agree on what we're trying to save. This is not about newspapers -- or not just about newspapers. It is about newsrooms and newsgathering. It's about serving local communities. And it's about understanding that journalism is a public service -- not just another business.
