News Corp.'s BSkyB Deal Appears 'Dead in the Water'

Full article: Hollywood Reporter
Just days after British Prime Minister David Cameron said Rupert Murdoch's bid to take full control of BSkyB would face a delay or even total derailment, the U.K.'s Independent is reporting that the deal "appeared to be dead in the water." The news comes on the heels of a report revealing additional phone-hacking incidents at the company as well as payments made to police officers.

Media Mergers Likely to Be More Frequent As Efficiencies Rule the Day

Full article: Washington Post
Steven Pearlstein
The hype notwithstanding, this time AOL may be right. Enough has happened since AOL announced its ill-fated merger with Time Warner that the original strategy based on business "synergies" and technological "convergence" may be more valid today than it was a decade ago. If so, we could be at the start of radical consolidation in the media industry.
