Full article: New York Times
Brian Stelter
Fifteen years ago, the journalists at NBC News teamed up with the software wizards at Microsoft to create MSNBC.com, and it zoomed to the top tier of all the news sites on what was then the brand new World Wide Web. Now NBC's top rival, ABC News, is doing something similar with Yahoo News, starting a new chapter in the competition for online news consumers.

Network News at a Crossroads

Full article: New York Times
Brian Stelter and Bill Carter
The economic problems facing ABC News and CBS News in many ways mirror those faced by newspapers, which have been similarly afflicted by a drop in advertising revenue. The reaction -- severe cuts in personnel and other costs -- also looks to be the same. But can you shrink your way to prosperity?

Cuts at TV-News Divisions Signal Leaner Approach

Full article: Wall Street Journal
Sam Schechner
Staff cuts at two of the biggest broadcast-television news outfits in the U.S. foreshadow a shift toward cheaper TV news gathering, as broadcast-news groups face shrinking profits and increasing competition from cable and the Internet.

ABC News to Cut Hundreds of Staff

Full article: New York Times
Brian Stelter and Bill Carter
ABC News will sharply reduce by about 25 percent its news-gathering staff through buyouts and possible layoffs. The cuts at ABC, a unit of the Walt Disney Company, are among the steepest ever made at a network news division.

ABC News Plans 25 Percent Cutback

Full article: Los Angeles Times
Matea Gold
Bowing to economic pressures, ABC News is launching a top-to-bottom restructuring that will shrink the staff by as much as 25 percent and dramatically reorient the way it gathers and produces the news. Executives seek to cut between 300 and 400 staff members, about a quarter of the 1,400-person news division.
