Will Connors and Christina Passariello
At this year's World Cup in South Africa soccer's governing body FIFA is trying to squelch guerrilla-marketing tactics by those who haven't paid for official sponsorships. It created new "exclusion zones" that restrict companies from advertising close to its venues and hired agents to help enforce the zones.

Why TV Advertising Isn't Dead Yet

Jon Fine
The economy remains in tatters. The big broadcast networks' aggregate TV ratings are dropping, again. Total ad spending is expected to be down this year, anywhere from around 6 percent to over 10 percent. But Skittish marketers aren't ready to abandon the familiar comfort of the 30-second network TV spot.

Bloggers Be Warned: FTC May Monitor What You Say

Full article: Advertising Age
Michael Bush
Thinking about letting a big-name blogger post a glowing review, or maybe sending some beverage products to an influencer, hoping she'll spread the word? Marketers might have to think twice, if the Federal Trade Commission follows through with its proposed plan to start regulating viral marketing and blogs.

When Stars Twitter, a Ghost May Be Lurking

Full article: New York Times
Noam Cohen
Celebrities are hiring "ghost Twitterers" to keep their fans happy. Many online commentators are appalled at the practice of enlisting ghost Twitterers, but PR consultants say the practice is no different that tweeting for a brand -- because they are a brand.
