Net Neutrality Survival Basic for Women's Media

Full article: Womens eNews
Megan Tady
Net Neutrality is a principle that everyone reading this article must understand and defend. Without it, you might be reading something that a male-owned corporation preferred you to see; something about lip gloss, perhaps.

The End of the Internet as We Know It?

Full article: In These Times
Megan Tady
Tomorrow morning, the country’s five FCC Commissioners will be casting votes that could dramatically alter the Internet. If the FCC passes a watered-down version of Net Neutrality, then we’ll see an end to this independence from corporate gatekeepers. Fake Net Neutrality will protect the interests of corporations, but it won’t do us justice. This is outrageous, given the broad public support for an open Internet allowing for unbridled freedom of expression and innovation.

The Media's Serial Habit of Insulting and Undermining Female Candidates

Megan Tady
There is a fear both subtle and obvious running rampant through our news media. It is not fear of a U.S. economy stuck in recession, or more housing foreclosures, or Obama-care, or the Tea Party, or feigned socialism, or terrorist attacks, or the flu, or immigrants. It's the fear of women -- specifically, fear of women politicians and leaders.

Media, Stop Abusing Female Candidates

Full article: In These Times
Megan Tady
Female politicians, candidates and leaders face blatant sexism and misogyny in both corporate media and parts of the blogosphere for challenging the male-dominated political system. Although unfair treatment of women leaders isn't new, recent attacks against female politicians in the media based on their gender, sexuality, appearance, outfits, hairstyle, age, weight, number of children (and how, or if, they hold those children), indicate that the trend is on the rise.

Megan Tady
If ever there were a state in need of a vicious press corps, with reporters camped out at the statehouse with the vigilance of teenage girls trying to score Justin Bieber tickets, New Jersey would be it. But now the state-owned TV station faces severe budget cuts that could cripple its ability to deliver local news coverage.

Bloggers on the Legal Fight for Net Neutrality

Kelly Heyboer
Imagine the Internet is a giant set of water pipes. Right now, the water is flowing steadily through all the pipes. When you turn on your tap, you get a reliable stream of water. But what if the water company stopped up some of the pipes, so its favorite customers got lots of water, while its least favorite customers got a trickle?

Media technology can put more control in consumers' hands over the gathering and sharing of information and entertainment. But some folks would frankly rather it didn't. What are some of the most significant media industry battles going on right now?
