Wireless Deja Vu?

Full article: The Hill
Craig Settles
If you're serious about using broadband to achieve great economic outcomes, wireless can't be the tail that wags the dog. It's an extension, a steppingstone to a greater solution, sometimes the only affordable option. Ultimately, communities must have a bigger role in determining which technology has what role.

A New Deal for Broadband: Free, Wireless

Full article: Ars Technica
Matthew Lasar
The New Deal was a period of experimentation. Many ideas were tried. Some failed. Some succeeded. A national free wireless service might be worth a try, providing some basic access to most Americans at little cost to the government -- but if the FCC thinks otherwise, it should finally say so and tell its advocates to move on.

The Wireless Web: Free at Last?

Jesse L. Jackson Sr.
The plan to establish a free nationwide network would put the AWS-3 spectrum band to immediate and productive use, ensuring that millions of Americans are not on the wrong side of the digital divide. What's more, it wouldn't cost taxpayers a dime.

FCC Broadband Plan Under Fire from All Sides

Full article: PCWorld
Tony Bradley
Instead of picking the FCC plan apart and trying to identify all of the ways it won't work, the various parties involved in the process and outcome should cooperate to figure out what will work. Pointing fingers at the FCC isn't going to accomplish anything.

Maisie Ramsay
The FCC has named health care and education as two of its top priorities in its upcoming national broadband plan, which is slated to be released March 17. The agency also named energy, the environment, government performance and public safety as other priorities in the plan.

Google's Gigabit Experiment a Welcome Prod in the Side

John Dix
We have to keep moving forward on ending the digital divide, and Google is right to use its considerable clout and wealth to push us to get better. Google says it will build a symmetrical gigabit service and provide open access to other service providers, both markedly different approaches compared to the status quo.

John Poirier
The FCC voted to expand a school program that is likely to help increase Americans' access to high-speed Internet, a major goal of the upcoming national broadband plan. The program, called E-rate, funds schools' connectivity to the Internet under the $8 billion Universal Service Fund.
