Dave Saldana, Communications Director
Dave Saldana oversees all Free Press communications work. A First Amendment lawyer, Emmy Award-winning news producer and journalism professor, Dave works in the Washington office and speaks and writes frequently on issues of ethics and professional standards.
His news career includes publication in all media—broadcast, print and online—and has run the gamut from small weekly newspapers to big-market television and MTV News. As an attorney, he handled First Amendment cases and workers' rights claims. His communications experience includes tenure as communications director for United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE), and adjunct professor of journalism at Iowa State University. An expert on journalism ethics and standards, he also served as deputy editorial director at Media Matters for America, continues to serve on the editorial board of the National Lawyers Guild, and is an adviser to the Visual Law Project at Yale University. Prior to joining Free Press, he was media adviser to the National Security and Human Rights Campaign. Dave earned his law degree at the University of Southern California, a master's at Columbia Journalism School, and an undergraduate degree in journalism from U.C. Santa Cruz.
