Saving the News: Denver and the Future of Journalism

Earlier this year, Denver became ground zero in the debate over the future of journalism in America when the 150 year old Rocky Mountain News closed its doors and stopped its presses. Free Press will be hosting a policy roundtable on the future of journalism that will bring together concerned citizens, journalists, law makers and community leaders to discuss what policies we need – and what actions we need to take – to foster quality journalism.

Confirmed Panelists:
John Temple, former editor, president and publisher of the Rocky Mountain News and vice president/news for E.W. Scripps Co.
Laura Frank, award winning investigative reporter for Rocky Mountain News, and co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Investigative News Network

Draft Agenda:
1) Journalism Policy Issue Summits 6:30 to 7:30
Small group discussions on key issues facing journalism in Denver and possible policy responses.

2) Policy Roundtable 7:30 to 8:30
Leading journalists, publishers and policy makers discuss the role of public policy and possible avenues for supporting journalism.

3) Question and Answers 8:30 to 9:30
