FCC Broadband Workshop: Adoption/Utilization - Mobile
The goal of the workshops will be to promote an open dialogue between the FCC and key constituents on matters important to the National Broadband Plan. Key constituents will include service providers, equipment providers, applications providers, community groups, and other groups that have a stake in the future of broadband. Workshops will consist of meetings held at the FCC. The public will have the opportunity to suggest meeting topics and questions for the workshops. All meetings will be broadcast over the Internet when possible, and archived for viewing at a later time to ensure that everyone has access to the content.
The goal of this workshop is to explore the current forces that affect consumer adoption of mobile broadband and the trends that likely will influence adoption in the future. Panelists will discuss their efforts to market their broadband offerings to consumers, the devices available to consumers and their capabilities, and whether handheld devices can overcome some of the barriers to consumers adopting and using broadband service generally. The workshop also will cover the consumer experience—what applications and services consumers already use and what they want to use in the future. We will invite different kinds of consumers to discuss their current broadband experience and what they want their experience to be. We also will include current business applications and likely future applications mobile broadband will offer, and we will discuss how to make mobile broadband affordable.
