International Labor Communications Association Convention

The International Labor Communications Association Convention is a rare opportunity to show the collective power of labor media, doing what we do best, together. From September 10 to September 12, ILCA’s media teams dig into the real effects of the world’s economy on ordinary Americans. Through training sessions and participation in real community journalism, attendees gain viable technical skills and valuable insight into the power of community media to tell the stories that really matter in our own communities.

A 48-hour newsroom – the ILCA Labor Media Center – acts as the nerve center of our special project about Pittsburgh workers, their unions, their campaigns, their victories and how their stories illustrate the deeper economic shifts affecting us all. After a day of training and a morning of briefings from Pittsburgh activists, ILCA’s labor journalists form teams, head into the city and cover workers’ stories. Upon their return, ILCA’s teams use the resources of the Media Center to produce articles, photo galleries, short videos and more. They then post their stories and findings on ILCA’s Pittsburgh Labor Media Center website.
