Newspaper Revitalization Act

The Newspaper Revitalization Act, introduced by Sen. Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.), would allow newspapers to operate as nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, making them tax exempt. Free Press is monitoring this bill.

Among the bill’s provisions, advertising space for a 501(c)(3) newspaper could not exceed its educational content, and newspapers’ nonprofit status would also allow for tax deductions for charitable contributors.
