Wall Street Journal editor-in-chief Robert Thomson, told staff in a memo that, "We all know that certain newspapers carpet the floors of lesser hotels with unread copies, and it could be said that there are two measures of mortality, brain death and the day that the NYT subscription ceases -- the latter may well be long after the former."
