Previously secret memos from the Bush era demonstrate the extent to which violations of our civil liberties went unreported. The memos have been addressed in some unsigned newspaper editorials and the liberal blogosphere. But the mainstream media is largely silent: Admitting that the dangers were present says that democracy's watchdog was sleeping (or cowering) on the job.
