Comcast, Cablevision Turn to Wi-Fi in Effort to Retain Customers

To keep their broadband customers from fleeing to rival phone companies, New Jersey cable operators are trying a new perk: free Wi-Fi. Comcast is testing Wi-Fi service at about 120 N.J. Transit rail stations, targeting its high-speed Internet subscribers who commute. Cablevision's Optimum Wi-Fi program was launched throughout the tri-state area last fall.
